He is the author of the textbook “Astronomical Python: An Introduction to Modern Scientific Computing” (IOP, 2024) as well as “Python for Astronomers” (SP, 2015); both of which provide introductory overviews of the use of the python programming language in astrophysics. Across time at UC Berkeley and Yale, Imad led the creation and facilitation of several new university courses focused on astronomical coding pedagogy, including the “Python Decal” at Cal and Astronomy 330 at Yale.
Malena Rice#
Malena Rice is an Assistant Professor in the Yale University Department of Astronomy. Her research centers on the formation and evolution of planetary systems, spanning topics including exoplanets, stars, and the outer solar system. She has worked closely with the Yale Poorvu Center for Teaching and Learning since 2018 to support excellence in pedagogy and to implement novel teaching innovations.
Yasmeen Asali#
Yasmeen Asali is a Ph.D. candidate in the Astronomy Department at Yale Univeristy working with the SAGA Survey. She works with Professor Marla Geha on characterizing star formation in satellite galaxies around Milky Way analogs. She is passionate about mentoring, pedagogy, and public education, serving as a McDougal Graduate Teaching Fellow at the Poorvu Center for Teaching and Learning.
Kendra Nguyen#
Kendra Nguyen is a Ph.D. student in the Rice Research Group in Yale University’s Department of Astronomy. Their research interest revolves around exoplanet formation and evolution. They are enthusiastic about mentoring, public outreach, and education, with experience giving talks to K-12 audiences.
